3 Myths about Women's Fitness

There are a number of myths about women's fitness out there. Check out this article to find out three of them and as to why they are myths!

1. Lifting weights will make you look too masculine or like a man

I was a firm believer in this going into high school and then I realized that I wanted to be excell in the sports I played and that required getting stronger. When I look back at all the lifting I did in high school, I did not look manly but rather very thin, tone, and sculpted. I was not aggressively big or have too much muscle. When I lift now, I gain back my muscle tone and strength therefore debunking this myth through personal experience. You are simply making your muscles stronger.

2. Muscle turns into fat when you stop working out.

This is very untrue and has also been proven incorrect through my personal experience. I do not lift or workout nearly as much as I used to and I still have the same body shape and build just a little less toned and definitely with less muscle. Muscle does not turn into to fat rather fat is gained when you do not eat correctly and do not work out. Muscles go through atrophy when you stop lifting, which simply means they get smaller.

3. Squats are bad for your knees.

Squats in themselves are actually really good for your knees! The only time they are bad for your knees is when you are doing them incorrectly. You must try to stay on your heels, keep your thighs parallel to the ground, and not let your knees go over your feet.
