Lifting Weights... The Things You Should Know

We’re in college now and the last time you probably lifted weights and knew what you were doing was high school right? Or maybe you have never lifted weights in your life and now you want to start? Before you step into that weight room and approach that rack there are a few things you should know!

Lifting, also known as resistance training, can be used to either increase muscle size or improve muscular fitness. It seems easy enough to figure out that in order to increase muscle size you do a low amount of repetitions but use a heavier weight and to improve muscular fitness you do a high amount of repetitions with a lighter weight.

But one thing everyone fails to understand is that the body must endure continuous challenge in order to force an adaption.

So, what does this mean for you when you go to work out next time?!

Well…..

1. STOP! Doing the same workout with the same amount of repetitions and size of weights!!!

This results in the same results and the consistency of muscle mass but not improvement.

2. Strive to challenge your body and over time raise the stress implemented on your body.

3. When working out, the last couple of sets should feel challenging but not over extenuating when striving to complete with the correct form.

By keeping the last couple of sets challenging but not too exhaustive, you are able to consistently and sufficiently test your body and gain the most during your training.

REMEMBER each set should take place within 90 seconds of each other to get the maximum benefits

Now that you know the basics...

READY, SET, LIFT!!!
