Dage Hard. Darty Long. But Try To Daydrink Safely

With a forecast of 70 degrees and a 10 percent chance of rain, this weekend will be one that everyone gets dressed up and heads to a friend's or an organization’s function to dance with friends, have some drinks, and catch some rays. Some may call this a dage (day rage), others a darty (day party) and most people daydrink. No matter what you call it, daydrinking can be a lot of fun, but could also get dangerous if you are not careful! So here are a few tips to help you get through the day and hopefully have one of the best days ever at college.

Tip 1: Eat breakfast

I do not care if you are starting at 6 am or 12 pm, a bagel can go a longggg way when it comes to surviving a daydrink. Food is necessary to make it through the day and starting a daydrink without eating seems like a great idea until you are a few hours in and too drunk to function. Make that mimosa in the morning if you want, but use it to wash down a bagel!!

Tip 2: Do not mix alcohols

You hear this regularly for when you are going to night parties, but it applies even more for daydrinking. Do you want to be that girl puking at 3 pm because you thought you were invincible and could drink wine, tequila, vodka, and have a beer?! I am very worried if you think you can do that, but I will be honest and say I have tried. Not a good time and an even worse night hangover. Which leads me to…

Tip 3: Do not be afraid to not go out that night but if you do EAT

Some people tap out after daydrinking which is understandable, all of that heat and all of those drinks definitely leads to exhaustion. There are the valiant few who either stay awake or keep drinking until the night. God Bless. For you all I say, do not be afraid to not go out but make sure that in between that time you stop daydrinking and begin night drinking EAT AGAIN!! You probably completely disregarded tip #1 and skipped breakfast because of the excitement of the daydrinking. Fine… I get that. But YOU MUST eat after you are done daydrinking or alcohol poisoning could become a very scary possibility.

Tip 4: Pictures

Take lots of pictures because odds are you will not remember the day and they also make really good artsy profile pictures!

Daydrink season is upon us and honestly the best days of my life have been when I attended a daydrink here at JMU. We all love warm weather, wide smiles, and cold drinks but let’s make sure we’re enjoying it all a bit more safely.
